DR. MEHMET MUŞ

RESUME

Dr. Mehmet Muş was born in Sürmene/Trabzon on May 1, 1982.

He completed his primary and secondary education in Istanbul.

After graduating from Eastern Mediterranean University, Faculty of Business and Economics, Department of Business Administration, he went abroad for his graduate study. He accomplished his graduate program at Washington State University School of Economic Sciences in the field of economics.

Having had his PhD degree at Marmara University, Department of Economic History, Mehmet Muş worked in the private sector as a Budget Planning Expert.

He was actively involved in the Istanbul Branch of AK Party Youth Organization where he served respectively as AK Party Youth Organization Provincial Executive Board Member, Director of Economic Affairs and Head of the Organization.

In 2011, he was elected to the Grand National Assembly as AK Party’s Istanbul MP for the 24th Parliament of Turkey. He remained in the office and continued to serve as MP in the 25th, 26th and 27th terms. He was a Member of Grand National Assembly’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Plan and Budget Committee and European Union Accession Committee. Being a former member of NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATOPA) Turkish Group, he also served as the Vice President of Public Relations at the AK Party Headquarters.

H.E. MIKAYIL CABBAROV

MINISTER OF ECONOMY, REPUBLIC OF AZERBAIJAN
RESUME

He was born on September 19, 1976 in Baku.

He studied at Baku State University, Faculty of International Law between 1992 and 1997.

Between 1997-1998, he received his law degree from Macgeorge Law School of Pacific University in Sacramento, California, USA, and his master's degree in economics from Azerbaijan State Economic University in 2004.

He has been a member of the New York Bar Association of the USA since 1999.

He started his working activities in the banking sector in 1995, and worked as a lawyer in the law firm and private sector between 1999-2002.

He served as the Advisor to the Minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2002-2003, and as the President of the Export and Investment Promotion Fund (AZPROMO) in Azerbaijan in 2003-2004.

He was appointed as Deputy Minister of Economic Development by the decision of the President of Azerbaijan dated February 20, 2004.

By the decision of the President of Azerbaijan dated March 6, 2009, he was appointed as the Head of the "İcherisheher" State Historical-Architectural Heritage Preservation Administration alongside the Council of Ministers.

He was appointed as the Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the decision of the President of Azerbaijan dated April 19, 2013.

He was appointed as the Minister of Taxes of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the decision of the President of Azerbaijan dated December 5, 2017.

He was appointed as the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the decision of the President of Azerbaijan dated October 23, 2019.

He is married and has 2 children.

MUHAMMAD LUTFI

MINISTER OF TRADE OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA
RESUME

Muhammad Lutfi was appointed as Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia on December 23rd, 2020 by H.E. President Joko Widodo. Prior to his appointment, he was the 20th Indonesian Ambassador to the United States of America. This is his second time served as Minister of Trade, after the first one back in 2014.

Ambassador Lutfi has held several leadership positions in the Indonesian government. Prior to his assignment as Minister of Trade back in 2014, he was Indonesian Ambassador to Japan from 2010 to 2013, and Chairman of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board from 2005 to 2009.

Born in Jakarta, August 16th, 1969, Ambassador Lutfi started his career journey as an entrepreneur. His true passion in nurturing young Indonesian entrepreneurs led him to become the Chairman of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association from 2001 to 2004 and has been an inspirational figure for Indonesian young entrepreneurs.

In 2008, Ambassador Lutfi received global recognition from the World Economic Forum (WEF) when named one of the Young Global Leaders (YGL) in 2008 among other international young leaders including Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google.

His keen interest in diplomacy and world affairs was demonstrated during his tenure as the Indonesian Ambassador to Japan since 2010. Under his leadership, he navigated the bilateral relationship between the two countries and multiplied Japan’s direct investment to Indonesia by almost seven folds.

As the Chairman of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board, he secured numbers of high-profile investment projects and spearheaded several direct investment policy reforms. Among others, his notable key achievement includes one stop service for investment licensing and the new Investment Law of 2007.

During his time as Minister of Trade in 2014 he was able to maintain inflation and boosted national export on the midst of global oil price turmoil. In the same year, he received the Bintang Mahaputra Adipradana award, one of the highest civilian honors from the Government of Indonesia, for his dedication and legacies.

As the Ambassador to the United States, he assured his commitment to step up the bilateral relation and enhanced cooperation in education, innovation, and technology.

Ambassador Lutfi studied Economics at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. He is married with one daughter. While he is an enthusiastic golfer, he also enjoys basketball, swimming and reading.

PETER SZIJJARTO

MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND TRADE, HUNGARY
RESUME

He was born on October 30th, 1978 in Komárom. He is an economist who earned his degree in International Relations from the Budapest University of Economic Sciences and Public Administration in 2002. He joined Fidesz in 1998. He was elected to member of the municipal government in the same year in the city of Győr, and then he obtained a mandate between 2006 and 2010 again.

In 2005 he was elected to president of Fidelitas, the youth organization of Fidesz. He occupied this position until 2009. He first became member of the National Assembly in 2002.

He received mandates in 2006, 2010 and 2014 as well; currently he serves his fourth term as member of the Parliament. He served as communications director and spokesman of the Fidesz between 2006 and 2010, and he was chief of staff of the party’s president from 2009 to 2010. During his parliamentary work he was deputy faction leader of Fidesz and chairman of the Parliament’s Budget Committee.

He served as the Prime Minister’s spokesman from June 2010 to June 2012, and headed the Prime Minister’s staff in charge of press, international and organizational affairs. In June 2012 he was appointed to State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations of the Prime Minister’s Office. He served as Government Commissioner for Hungarian-Russian Relations and Hungarian Chinese Bilateral Relations from March 2013. In June, 2014, he was appointed to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Since September, 2014, he serves as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Career

After graduating Tom de Bruijn joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he held various positions. At the start of his career he worked at the Treaties Department and the International Organisations Department, after which he became head of the General European Integration Affairs Section at the European Integration Department.
Between 1988 and 1 992 he was posted as first secretary to the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations in Geneva. After this he held the post of Deputy Director and later Director of the European Integration Department. In 1998 he was appointed Director-General for European Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
From 2003 to 2011 Mr De Bruijn was the Dutch Permanent Representative to the European Union in Brussels. In 2011 he joined the Council of State as State Councillor in the Advisory Division.
Between 2014 and 2018 he was a member of The Hague municipal executive for Democrats ‘66 (D66) with responsibility for finance, traffic, transport and the environment. He temporarily served as acting mayor of The Hague in March 2017.
on 14 July 2021 it was announced that on 10 August 2021 Mr De Bruijn would be appointed Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation.

Party political positions and outside activities

Tom de Bruijn was previously chairman of the supervisory boards of the Clingendael Institute and the Germany Institute Amsterdam. He was also special adviser to the Task Force for Greece established by the European Commission.
Mr De Bruijn has also been a guest lecturer at the Leiden University Institute for History.

Besart Kadia has finished his A-Level studies in Radley College (2002-2004) (UK) and then pursued his studies in in University of Bristol (2004-2007), (UK) in Economics and Politics (Bachelor) and Economics and Finance (MSc) University of Bristol (2008-2009). He has worked as a lecturer at the European University of Tirana since 2009 part of brain Gain Programme in Albania and finished his PhD studies in Institutional Transformation in Eastern Europe at the European University of Tirana (2014-2017). During 2013-2017 he was Executive Director of Foundation for Economic Freedom engaged in research and promotion of libertarian ideas in Albania through publishing of books, organizing conferences and trainings where he became part of Atlas Network in Washington DC and was awarded the Smith Fellowship in 2016. He also served as national coordinator for Austrian Economic Centre during 2005-2020 for the Free Market Road Show initiative.

YAVUZ SELİM KÖŞGER

GOVERNOR OF IZMIR

He was born on January 3, 1964 in Konya. He graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Science in 1986. Between the years 1987-1990, he conducted audits to Associations. He started his career in 1990 as candidate Kırşehir District Governor. Following his service in Yapraklı and Beydağ as acting District Governor, he completed his international internship in Oxford, England. Later on, he served as District Governor in Doğankent, Kemaliye and Şarkikaraağaç, and as Deputy Governor in Artvin. After having worked as the General Manager of the Agricultural Credit Cooperatives of Turkey, he studied French language and Administrative System of France for 5 months in Paris, France. In 2004, he was appointed as the Head of Department at the Directorate General for Local Authorities, in 2006 as Deputy Director General, and on May 28, 2010 he became General Director.

He has worked as the Governor of Sinop as of May 3, 2013, the Governor of Bingöl as of February 16, 2015 and the Governor of Aydın as of June 13, 2017. M. TUNÇ SOYER

MAYOR OF İZMİR METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY
RESUME

Born in Ankara in 1959, Tunç Soyer has lived in İzmir since his early childhood.

After graduating from Bornova Anatolian Highschool, he completed his university degree at Ankara University Faculty of Law. During this time, he worked as a correspondent in the Turkish News Agency and has translated a work on the tragedy of women in immigrant camps into Turkish.

Soyer has a master’s degree on “International Relations” from Webster College in Switzerland and on the “European Union” from Dokuz Eylül University. He founded a holiday village in Seferihisar in 1991 that is still in operation. Being a fluent English and French speaker, he was an active manager in the tourism sector for nine years.

In 2003, he became a consultant of the Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Ahmet Piriştina on the obtainable financial resources of the European Union and strengthened his experiences on the economy and social life of İzmir within this period. From 2004 to 2006, he served as the Director of Foreign Relations of the İzmir Chamber of Commerce. In 2006, he was appointed as the General Secretary of EXPO İzmir.

In 2009 he was elected as the Mayor of Seferihisar and carried on this task for two terms. He has implemented the international local-scale development model Cittaslow (Slow City) first to Seferihisar and then introduced it to the seven geographical areas of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

He was elected as the Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality at the local elections held in March 2019.

He is married and has two daughters.

He was born in 1963 in Izmir, Turkey. After he finished Gazi Primary School, Izmir Saint Joseph Secondary School, and Izmir Ataturk Highschool, he graduated from Dokuz Eylul University, Marketing department.

He is working with 'Oz-Ege' Company in the tobacco industry, since 1987. Currently, he is also working with 'Vosmer Automotive’ company in the automotive industry and with 'Artı Uc Yapi Sanayi' company in the building trade.

In 1999, he was selected as Aegean Tobacco Exporters' Association Chairman and carried out this duty until 2018.

Between the years 2001-2003 and 2006-2008 he was the Deputy Chairman of Board of Presidents at Aegean Exporters' Association (EIB).

Between 2006 and 2008 he was selected as Deputy Chairman of Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM).

In the early 1980s, his sports life began at Altay Sports Club as a director at the youth setup. In 1994, he became the President of the club and he maintained this duty for 3 years.

Between 2004 and 2006 he became a member of the board of Turkish Football Federation. After the Federation President Hasan Dogan had a heart attack and passed away, Ozgener was selected as 'President' by proxy. Winning the elections held in August, he carried out his duty as President until 2011.

Between the years 2011-2012, he served as the Chairman of the EXPO Executive Board, during the EXPO 2020 candidacy process of İzmir.

In 2018, he has been selected as President of the Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, the Chairman of the Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce Educational and Health Foundation and as the President of the Board of Trustees in İzmir University of Economics.

He was selected as a Member of the Board at the Ordinary General Assembly held by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey in May 2018. Currently, he maintains all of those duties.

Ender YORGANCILAR, born in İzmir in 1957, has been a Member of the Assembly of the Aegean Region Chamber of Industry (EBSO) since 1994 and served as Member of the Executive Board for six years, President of Assembly between 2005-2008 and has been President of the Executive Board since 2009. Yorgancılar made concrete contributions to Izmir in the fields of health and education; which are the basic needs of a society and in alignment with his beliefs that only the countries which have their own technology can truly be independent and Turkey has to be among the technology producing countries in order to make the country’s economy competitive to international standards and furthermore reduce the current deficit, established Izeltas Research and Development Center which has achieved great and rarely seen success in Turkey.

IŞINSU KESTELLİ

Işınsu Kestelli was born in Konya in 1962. After graduating from American Collegiate Institute High School in İzmir in 1981, she received her B.A. degree from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Dokuz Eylül University, İzmir in 1985.

Married with one child, Mrs. Kestelli is the founding partner of a privately-held company, Agrilink Agricultural Products Co. Ltd., where she continues her trading activities on international edible oils.

In 1992, she took part in the Edible Oils Professional Committee of İzmir Commodity Exchange (ICE) and became a member of the Board of Directors of the ICE in 1995. Mrs. Kestelli served as the vice chairperson of the Board of Directors from 2003 to 2009 in İzmir Commodity Exchange where she was elected as the chairperson in 2009.

Having been elected as the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the ICE in 2009, Mrs. Kestelli once again received the vote of confidence in the elections held in February, 2013 and has been serving the same position since then.

At the same time, he served as a Member of the Assembly of Turkish Chamber of Shipping as a representative of Turkish Chamber of Shipping Izmir Branch. Yusuf Ozturk elected as Chairman of the Board of Turkish Chamber of Shipping Izmir Branch in May, 2013 and April, 2018.

D. Ali DEVECİ completed his undergraduate education in Dokuz Eylül University School of Maritime Business and Management (now known as Maritime Faculty) in 1993 and became one of the first graduates of the school.

Having worked in the field of ship management in the maritime industry for a while after graduation, D.Ali DEVECİ started to work as a research assistant in the School of Maritime Business and Management in 1994. Dr. Deveci had his master’s degree in field of “international Business” in 1996 at Dokuz Eylul University Graduate School of Social Sciences and received his PhD in 2002 from Istanbul University Institute of Marine Sciences and Management in the field of "Maritime Business Management".

Dr. DEVECİ, having founded the School of Maritime Business and Management Alumni Association (now DEFMED) served as the chair of this association for two terms.

Dr. DEVECİ had the associate professorship degree in 2009 in the "Marketing Discipline" and appointed as professor at Dokuz Eylül University Maritime Faculty in 2014. Having undertaken administrative and academic duties at various levels of the Faculty, Dr. D. Ali DEVECİ is currently the Acting Dean of the Maritime Faculty at Dokuz Eylül University and Chair of the Maritime Business Administration Department. He is also member of the Executive Board of the Graduate School Social Sciences at Dokuz Eylül University.

Prof. Dr. D. Ali DEVECİ has published many scientific researches and books in the fields of shipping, international maritime transport, multimodal transport, international marketing, international logistics and port management. Prof.DEVECİ also took part in the workshops and special expertise commissions in the fields of Logistics, Transportation and Shipping.

She graduated from Middle East Technical University, Department of Business Administration. She has worked in international advertising agencies, especially McCann and Wunderman, in İstanbul for 10 years.

She carried out the communication activities of many national and international brands such as Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Nokia, IKEA, Yeni Rakı.

She started her career with traditional advertising, but she continued with digital advertising.

She returned to Izmir in 2014 and established the Young Creative Communication Services Agency together with Haluk Mesci, which is the advertising agency simulation of Izmir University of Economics, and still continues her duty as the manager of the agency.

On one hand, she teaches Digital Communication and Social Media courses and trainings at undergraduate and master's degree, on the other hand, she is pursuing her PhD in Urban Publicity and Branding.

She also works as a consultant who is responsible for communication activities in Izmir University of Economics Graduate Education Institute and Sustainable Energy Laboratory.

In addition to her studies at the university, she has been working as a Communication Consultant at the İzmir Foundation since 2016. She has played an active role in many domestic and international promotional activities of İzmir, especially "İzmir'e Doyamazsın", City of İzmir, Visit İzmir.

Having graduated from Boğaziçi University Psychology Department, Aslı Kunur received a master’s degree in Human Resources at Marmara University. After starting her career in 1996, Kunur joined Siemens Turkey as a “Human Resources Specialist” in 1999. Functioning both as “Compensation and Benefits Manager” and “Human Resources Business Partner” between 2008-2015, Kunur took part in the company’s international compensation and benefits projects.

DR. R. ERDEM ERKUL

Erkul began his career as a Kent Guide reporter in 1999 in Turkey's first web and media portal Turkport Electronic Publishing and Communications Inc. Then in 2003, He worked at Hacettepe University School of Political Science and Public Administration as an academician. He was rewarded in Turkey, in Europe and America with Turkey's first information portal featuring information portal of e-government www.dijitaldevlet.net founded in 2005 and with international e-government portal www.digital-goverment.net founded in February of 2008. Erkul conducted research at National Center For Digital Government, which was established at Harvard University in 2002 in USA, with Prof. Jane Fountain as a Doctoral Research Fellow in 2008-2009 academic year. He studied at Massachusetts University about Public Policy, e-Government, Innovation in 2009.

Erkul was awarded a certificate of completion for the Innovation for Economic Development Program in June 2013 in Executive Program of Harvard University and John F. Kennedy School of Government. When he was Harvard, He studied Public Policy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. His research interests are implementation of digital government as a public policy. He is also interested in issues regarding mobile government (m-government). He was Vice President and member of Executive Board of Turkish Informatics Association between 2011 and 2015. He consults many digital government and public policy activities and awards. Since January 2010, Representative of Turkish Informatics Association in Council of European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS) in Brussels. He is a member of European Commission Informatics Portal-Informal Expert Committee since April 2010. As of June 2012, he was also elected as a peer reviewer to European Journal of Practice. He is a member of Turkish American Scientists and Scholars Association (TASSA). He managed and attended many social responsibility projects. He has written articles in reputable business and technology journals such as Harvard Business Review. He is member of Executive Board of Turkish Informatics Foundation. As of December 2020, He was appointed as board member of Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN Turkey).

He is a Selection Committee Members of Young Innovators Competition of International Telecommunication Union. He worked as a Manager and Director Public Affairs & Corporate Citizenship at Microsoft Turkey between 2010 and 2013. Erkul was the Regional National Plan Manager at Microsoft Middle East & Africa Headquarters until August 2014. From 2014 to 2018 Erkul was the Director of Public Sector & External Affairs & Strategy at Samsung Turkey. He was the spokesperson of Samsung Electronics Turkey. Between July 2018 and November 2020, R. Erdem Erkul was appointed as the Director of Public Sector and Investments at Microsoft Turkey. He is also the Vice President at Council of European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS). In 2021, he founded Cerebrum Tech. In addition to them, he is one of the speakers of the TEDx conference. He publishes “Digital World”, “Technology and Sociology” podcast series on Spotify. PROF. DR. NURİ AZBAR

Prof. Azbar graduated from DEU Environmental Engineering in 1990 and completed his master's degree at the same University in 1993. He completed his PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Vanderbilt University in the United States in 1999.

In addition to renewable energy such as biofuels and industrial wastewater treatment and wastewater recovery, Prof Azbar works and lectures on topics such as "Industrial Ecology and Cleaner Production", Sustainable Campuses". He has been contributing to environmental developments in the industry and society with his joint works with the Chamber of Industry, the Chamber of Environmental Engineers and the Environment-themed associations.

Prof Azbar is currently a faculty member at Ege University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Bioengineering. His basic educational approach and vision in the Bioengineering Department is the "Biorefinery" concept. He carries out research and training activities for the production of high value-added outputs by employing conversion from waste to value concept.

AYLİN ÇAĞLAYAN ÖZCAN

She was born in 1970 in Ankara. She graduated from METU Civil Engineering Department in 1992 and completed her master's degree in METU Civil Engineering Water Resources Department.

Between 1992-2006, in the General Directorate for State Hydraulic Works, which she started with a scholarship, she carried out planning studies, took part in both tender and implementation phases of drinking water and sewage treatment projects and worked in foreign-financed dam and irrigation projects. In 2003, at the Council of Europe Development Bank in Paris she carried out studies on dam and irrigation projects financed by the Bank.

She continued to work as an Expert in the General Secretariat for European Union Affairs in 2006 and in the Ministry for European Union Affairs as of 2011, with the General Secretariat becoming the Ministry. She was especially responsible for harmonization studies in the fields of EU's Regional Policy and Structural Funds and took an active role in the First Period of the Civil Society Dialogue.

Between 2013 and 2018, she served as the Head of Sectoral Policies at the same Ministry. In this period she carried out studies for harmonization with EU legislation in the sectors of Environment and Climate Change, Energy and Transport Policy and coordinating the use of EU Financial Aids in these sectors.

Since August 2018, she has been working as the Director General for the European Union and Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry,

She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Grain Board (TMO).

Şafak is the co-founder and chair of ”Etkiyap”, Turkey’s first impact investing platform. Şafak also chairs the National Impact Investing Advisory Board “EYDK” comprised of 30 institutions from all sectors, that facilitates the development of impact investing and a well-functioning ecosystem in Turkey.

Having a background in corporate and energy law, she served international and national institutions and corporations for many years as a legal advisor and board member. Apart from her expertise in energy and corporate law, she is also specialised in public policy. Since 2015, she has been leading her academic and professional activities around impact investment and measurement as a tool to achieve sustainable out-comes in all sectors. Alongside her career in law, she realised national and international projects as a social entrepreneur and venture philanthropist for young people’s extracurricular activities, leadership and em-ployment, and economic empowerment of women, children’s rights, climate change and energy efficiency.

Şafak also supports the social value research of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award to support the Foundation’s efforts in demonstrating the impact of the Award. She has been a World Fellow of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Foundation since 2019.

Şafak is founding Board member of the National Award Operator of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Internation-al Foundation in Turkey and served as the Vice President for the first 10 years of the Award in Turkey. Çiğdem Nas is an associate professor of International Relations and Secretary-General of the Economic Development Foundation. Mehmet Efe Biresselioglu is a Professor of Energy Policy, founding Dean of Graduate School and Head of Sustainable Energy Division at Izmir University of Economics. He is also acting as the Steering Committee Member of European Energy Research Alliance’s (EERA) Joint Programme on Economic, Environmental and Social Impacts of Energy Policies and Technologies, and the Head of Izmir Circle of Mediterranean Citizens’ Assembly (ACIMEDIT). He is also currently acting as the Principal Investigator of Izmir University of Economics’ Sustainable Energy Lab (www.senlab.ieu.edu.tr).

He is the recipient of Turkey’s most prestigious science award for scholars under 40 – TÜBİTAK Young Scientist Incentive Award on Social Sciences (2020).

He has been acting as Work Package Manager in several Horizon 2020 projects, including ECHOES, EERADATA, eCREW, ENCHANT, DIALOGUES, CAMPAIGNERS. Moreover, he has been acting as Coordinator in TUBITAK and BAP supported projects. He also taught as a Visiting Lecturer on Energy policy at Den Haag University (the Netherlands), University of Aalborg (Denmark), Budapest College of Management (Hungary), University of Salerno (Italy) and University of Minho (Portugal).

Previous to his current positions, he acted as a Lecturer at EU’s INOGATE Programme (Baku, Azerbaijan), Sr. Visiting Research Fellow in Norwegian Institute of International Affairs’ Energy Program (Oslo, Norway), and non-resident Jr. Fellow at Finnish Business and Policy Forum (Helsinki, Finland).

He completed his Ph.D. at IMT Institute for Advanced Studies, Lucca, Italy and also received his ‘Doctor Europaeus’ degree with the approval of Confederation of EU Rectors. He received his MA in European Studies from Jean Monnet Center of Excellence at University of Turku, Finland and his BA in Political Science and Public Administration from Bilkent University, Turkey. He is also proud to be a graduate of TED Ankara College for his high school education similar to many of his family members.

His current research focuses on (1) examining the role of energy security in energy policy making, (2) analyzing individual and collective energy choices and social acceptance of energy transitions, (3) assessing the existing energy and environment policies and targets, (4) developing methodologies for impact assessment of political, economic, technologic shifts in energy and environment domain, and (5) resource curse. He published several articles related to energy issues in the leading journals listed in Q1 such as Energy Policy, Journal of Cleaner Production, Energy, and Energy Research&Social Science. He is also the author of the “European Energy Security: Turkey’s Future Role and Impact” (UK: Palgrave Macmillan, 2011) and the editor of “Enerji Güvenliği Perspektifinden Türkiye’ye Bakış” (TR:EHAEY, 2015).

TARIK SÖNMEZ

CHIEF COMMERCIAL COUNSELOR, LONDON

Tarık SÖNMEZ was born in Sivas in 1965. He completed his undergraduate education at Gazi University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Economics in 1986, and his master's degree in 2000 at the Department of Public Administration and International Relations, University of Pittsburgh, USA. He also holds a Master's degree in Economics at the Department of Economics, Hacettepe University.

He started his career as a Research Assistant at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Finance. He worked as assistant expert at the Development Bank of Turkey and the State Planning Organization in 1989-1991.

He continued his career as expert at the Undersecretariat of Treasury and Foreign Trade, and then served as the Melbourne Commercial Attaché in Australia in 2003-2006. He took an important role in one of the first clustering studies in Turkey by carrying out the National Clustering Policy Project Coordinator, which is an EU project in 2007-2008. In addition, he served as the Project Coordinator for Development of Quality Infrastructure in Turkey, which is another EU project in 2008-2011.

Following his duties as Head of Department and Deputy Director General in different directorates of the Ministry of Economy, he was appointed as the Director General of Free Zones in 2011. He served as Director General of Exports in 2011-2014 and as Deputy Undersecretary in 2014-2018. He is currently serving as the Chief Commercial Counselor in London which he was appointed in May 2019.

In addition to his duties in the relevant directorates of the Ministry, he also served as a board member of the TÜRKAK, Turkish Accreditation Agency, in 2011-2012.

He served as the Commissioner of Turkey to coordinate the participation of our country in EXPO Milano 2015 held in Italy in 2015, EXPO Astana 2017 held in Kazakhstan in 2017 and finally EXPO Beijing 2019 organized in China in 2019. He also took part in the Board of EXPO Antalya 2016, the first EXPO held in our country, representing the Ministry of Economy.

RESUME

After working for 7 years as an Environmental Engineer in İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Control Department Solid Waste Operations Branch Directorate in 200, I have been working as the Waste Management Planning and Control Branch Manager in the Waste Management Department established within the Authority since 2015.

In the process of transporting all domestic solid wastes of İzmir province from transfer stations to evaluation/disposal facilities and ensuring their management; I am involved in the planning, project design and establishment processes of the Integrated Solid Waste Management Facilities / Fertilizer Facilities / Regular Storage and Energy Generation Facility needed within the scope of the Izmir Province Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan, including the site selection stage.

On the other hand, the management (collection-transportation-processing and final disposal in the sterilization facility) of the medical wastes generated in 30 districts of İzmir is carried out by our Directorate itself.

We continue to work in coordination with district municipalities in packaging waste management processes.

She was graduated from the Department of International Relations of the Faculty of Political Sciences at the Ankara University. In 1996, she joined the Undersecretariat for Foreign Trade as Foreign Trade Expert in the DG for EU Affairs. She has concluded her graduate degree in the School of International and Public Affairs of the Columbia University between 2000-2002.

During the years of 2006-2009 she has worked in Brussels at the Permanent Delegation of Turkey to the EU as Commercial Counsellor. Following that post she has worked in the Ministry of Trade as Head of Unit, Head of Department and Deputy Director General in the DG for EU Affairs. During this time her portfolio has focused mainly on the Turkey-EU Customs Union, Turkey-EU institutional relations including the meetings of the Customs Union Joint Committee, modernization of the Customs Union and alignment with the EU Single Market legislation including right of establishment and freedom to provide services, public procurement, competition, intellectual property rights and technical legislation. Since September 2020, she has been working as Chief Commercial Counsellor at the Permanent Delegation of Turkey to the EU in Brussels.

Professor Doctor Mustafa Tanyeri was born on the 21st April, 1956 in İzmir. He completed his BA degree in 1978 at Business Faculty of the Aegean University and his Master Degree in 1980. He obtained the title of Doctorate in 1986, Associate Professor & Lecturer in 1991 and Professor in 2007. He served as Director of the Regional Development and Business Sciences Research Center at the Dokuz Eylül University, Director of Lifelong Learning Center, Deputy Dean of the Business Faculty and Chair of the International Relations and International Business Departments. He worked in EU, UNDP and World Bank projects. He lectured as visiting professor at the Hamburg University in 1987. He carried the task of Secretary General of the Aegean Young Businessmen Association (EGİAD) from 1992 to 2018. He is the Secretary General of the İzmir Chamber of Commerce since the 24th April, 2018. He is married and father of one daughter. He speaks English.
